My apologies for not having a battle report for round 1 of this scrum. I did not take notes and don't want to report something that I am just trying to piece together from my poor memory a few weeks later. Due to this, I am going to proceed with my report on round 2.

Wraith Engine [15]
He won the roll and took first turn. I took the board edge with the trench. Terrain looked like this (standing on my side when photo was taken):
Sadly, that was the only picture I took during the entire battle. Hopefully having the terrain to reference will help with my descriptions. My two theme clouds were in front of the trench, adjacent to each other. Hopefully next round I will remember to take pictures before each turn.
He deployed Thyron central with a banshee on either side and a unit of halberdiers out on either flank. His battle engine was placed between the left halberdiers and the left banshee. One artillery unit was out wide on the right flank, while the second was to the left of the right halberdiers. One thane was near each unit and the remainder of the solos were escorting Thyron.
I deployed the bane knights out wide to my left with the soul trapper far out to the left beyond them. The wraith engine was to the right of the knights with an arc node behind the knights and next to engine. Bane riders were located to right of the wraith engine. Denny was to the right of the riders with Tartarus and the second arc node next to her. Bane warriors were placed to the right of Tartarus. Orin Midwinter was to the right of the bane warriors. Stalkers deployed left of center in front of his battle engine.
Top 1: He advance moves and then everything moves forward. Both units of halberdiers get desperate pace, receive the shield wall order and reposition 3" for an 11" move in shield wall. The halberdiers on the left form up in pods of 3, with each pod leaving a single grunt within 13" of my stalkers. Everything else moves forward, but makes sure to stay out of any of my threat ranges. Both banshees end up positioned somewhat behind the central forest, one sticking out from either side.
Bottom 1: Due to his threat ranges, nothing moves too far forward on my turn. My biggest effort was to keep all my models safe until next turn when scoring could potentially start. One stalker finds a safe spot behind the forest out of line of sight of everything. The warriors move up a little with Tartarus and Orin. The right arc node moves into range to venom two pods of halberdiers. Denny launches two venoms and boosts three of the attack rolls. Out of five total targets, two die, two are corroded, and one escapes unscathed. She then moves up into the trench, behind the clouds (not seen in my picture). The wraith engine and knights move up a little with the left arc node behind them. The riders move up, and the forward most one is just inside threat range of a couple halberdiers. The second stalker hides within the unit of bane riders.
Top 2: One of his two corroded halberdiers dies. He sees Denny empty on focus and says those words no warmachine player wants to hear. "What is your caster's defense and armor?" He loads up the right banshee and activates thryon who pops feat. It was around this time that he explained how the banshee would be able to side step from my forward bane rider into a second rider and into Denny. Thryron's escorts move up around him and do their standard actions to deter assassination. The right halberdiers charge in on the right arc node and scrap it. The right banshee activates to go in for the kill and he realizes he didn't cast assail on Thyron's activation, which means Denny is out of his threat range, and he isn't going to get much work out of his feat. Instead of charging in, the banshee shoots and kills a bane rider. The second banshee shoots and kills another rider. The battle engine moves up to just outside 10" from the wraith engine (walking threat range). The left halberdiers move in and kill the soul trapper.
Bottom 2: The bane riders vengeance move so they all have line of sight to one of the banshees and Denny allocates 2 focus to load up one of the stalkers. The bane knights charge in and don't do much due to set defense on the halberdiers. Tartarus moves up to kill 2 halberdiers and creates 2 warriors. The warriors walk forward and kill some halberdiers and Orin Midwinter uses chain lightning to kill 2 more. The bane riders charge and kill a banshee. Denny arcs curse of shadows on the AFG (his battle engine). The wraith engine runs to apply dark shroud to the AFG. The stalker behind the forest walks through the wraith engine to get in position on the AFG. I hit with the initial attack boost the damage roll. After that hit, I do the mental math and realize that with both ARM debuffs, I should not have boosted the damage. I end up hitting and not boosting on remaining 3 attacks and leave it with 1 box. The second stalker runs to try and block up charge lanes to the wraith engine. Darragh Wrathe casts hellfire to kill the AFG and open up all new charge lanes to my wraith engine. No scoring takes place.
Top 3: The remaining banshee get loaded with focus and kills my wraith engine. The right arc node dies to halberdiers, who also attack some bane warriors. One warrior dies and one toughs. The thane solo charged a warrior, but missed. The bane warrior officer is killed by artillery. Left halberdiers walk and attack bane knights, killing a few. My apologies for the lack of numbers on how many infantry died each turn. Without pictures, I could not recall the exact number of casualties most turns. Thyron moves up and to the left a little with his solo entourage. Both stalkers are killed and I must apologize again as I cannot remember exactly what killed them, but they sure were dead at the end of this turn.
Bottom 3: The bane knights charge. Two of the knights get a charge on the objective and kill it. Three more do not get charge distance and attack halberdiers. One or two halberdiers die. A couple knights charged Thyron, missed their attacks and were killed by his riposte. The bane warriors clear the right zone by killing 2 or 3 halberdiers. Tartarus kills the thane solo and a halberdier to create 2 more warriors. Orin moves up and kills the right artillery with chain lightning. The remaining arc node runs into the left zone to position for hellmouth on the left halberdiers. Denny arcs hellmouth onto the left halberdiers, killing three, then moves into the right zone. Darragh Wrathe charges and kills a solo then hellfires something else, maybe another halberdier. I score 2 points for the dead objective and the right zone.
Top 4: The right halberier UA moves into the right zone. The remaining artillery is granted true sight, shoots and kills Tartarus. Thyron moves into the left zone, smashes arc node, but does not kill. He ends up camping some focus. Left halberdiers kill a few more bane knights, leaving two sitting base to base in the bottom left corner of the zone, in melee with a couple halberdiers. The banshee takes a shot at one of the knights and hits. The directly hit knight dies, and the second one takes a collateral damage roll, but he rolls snake eyes and the knight is knocked down but not destroyed. No scoring takes place, so I remain up 2-0.
Bottom 4: The warriors kill the halberdier UA to clear right zone and also kill the soulless escort. Orin runs directly towards the remaining artillery crew. Denny stays put and sits on all focus. Arc node stays put. Bane knight stands, swings and fails to kill a halberdier. I score 1 point, going up 3-0.
Top 5: Thyron runs around the forest, towards Denny. The banshee moves up along with Thyron's escort of solos. The left halberdiers fail to kill the last knight and arc node. I score 1, going up 4-0.
Bottom 5: At this point, I know I already will win as long as Denny ends the turn in the right zone. I try to do some clean up to gain extra AP, however, I believe the last artillery is the only thing I actually managed to kill. I score 1 and win 5-0.
If he had remembered to cast assail, Denny would have died on bottom of 2. AFG going down to a stalker was big. I was sad I didn't get to create a machine wraith or use the wraith engine for anything other than applying dark shroud, but he enabled me to kill the AFG before it could become a real issue. The bane warriors and Tartarus owning the right zone were the mvps. I know I still need to get much better with Denny2. You may have noticed me not mentioning using the feat. I ended up using it on the bottom of turn 5 when I was trying to pick up more AP and see what I could have done if I needed to assassinate Thyron (which would have been needed if he had managed to clear out the left zone a turn or two earlier). I have an issue where I forget to use wraith walker to make her incorporeal every other turn and I end up wanting to spend all her focus most turns. I need to be able to pick out what is the most valuable spell to cast on a given turn and be ready to camp the rest. This is especially true in a dark host list where the banes can be very self sufficient and don't need much help.
With wins in both my first two rounds, I am sitting at 2-0 going into round three. The pairings were already announced and I have been paired up against Brad Park. If you read my first post about this scrum, you will recognize that name as the person who was kind enough to help me build my lists for this tournament. I am mildly terrified of the prospect of going up against someone who probably knows my lists better than I do, so this should be an interesting matchup. Thanks for reading and next time I will have the battle report for the next round.
